Where to Find Inspiration for Your Home Renovation

You're ready to renovate your space. Before you start the planning process, you need to decide what's on your wish list. Home renovation is a major project and isn't something to just throw together or skimp on.

Right now you have the opportunity to turn your kitchen, bathroom, living room, bedroom, or any other interior space into the room of your dreams. And this is a chance to turn your ho-hum home into something that's truly magical.

Unless you have the absolute 100% precise picture of what you want already in your head, you need inspiration. Where can you get your renovation inspiration? Take a look at some of the most popular places to start searching for your dream renovation ideas.

Online Options

Gone are the days when you had to sift through magazine after magazine just to find a few teeny-tiny bits of inspiration. Of course, you can still browse design and décor magazines to see what's new. But the point here is - you don't have to.

From Pinterest to Instagram, you'll find plenty of online opportunities for inspiration. Instead of focusing your search on one specific style (such as searching Pinterest for "contemporary kitchens"), look at an array of different options. Narrowing your search too early on may mean that you miss inspiring photos, articles, or posts that you end up actually liking.

While some online and app options, such as Instagram, just let you browse and post pictures, Pinterest allows you to create your own virtual Pinboards. This is an easy way to organize all the inspirational photos that you find.

When it comes to non-Pinterest sources, such as Instagram or even Facebook, try using hashtags. You can now follow hashtags on Instagram, making it easy to see plenty of #homedecor or #homedesign in your feed daily.

Friends' Homes

Have you ever gone to a party and thought, "Whoa, their kitchen is exactly what I want"? When you visit friends' or family members' homes, snap a few photos of designs that inspire you. Keep in mind, this doesn't mean that you have to absolutely adore each and every aspect of someone else's kitchen, bathroom, or any other room.

You may not find one room or space that meets all your dream needs. Look for little inspirations everywhere you go. This might mean combining your best friend's kitchen island with your sister's countertops and your aunt's cabinets.

Talk to a Pro

Professionals in the design, décor, and renovation fields also have expert knowledge that you can tap - even in the beginning stages of the process. Don't worry if you have no idea what you really want on your renovation wish list. Now is the time to learn about and get exposure to different styles and concepts. You may think that traditional is the way to go. But that might be because you haven't seen enough homes in other styles.

The professionals in this area can help you to better understand what your options are. They can also provide portfolios of their past work, giving you the chance to see the real-life rooms that they've created. If the entire rooms don't provide enough inspiration, you may find that bits and pieces of them take you on a new design journey.

Like with visiting friends' and family members' homes, viewing designs that the pros have created for other clients can become a pick-and-choose or combination type of process. You may find inspiration in an overall style or you might like specific elements of several different designs.
